Washoe County Sheriff awards search and rescue team

RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Local search and rescue volunteers received awards Wednesday night for their efforts in advancing technology that makes finding victims easier. A Certificate of Commendation was presented to Randy Malm for his work in securing $171,340 in grant money from Reno’s William N. Pennington Foundation. The funds went to the team’s new underwater remote-operated vehicle that can scan depths at 2,000 feet below the water’s surface, and related equipment. Malm was able to bring in additional grants over the year, totaling $230,000. Jack Wayman and Alan Chinowsky were both given the Vincent G. Swinney Award for decades of service on Search and Rescue’s Incident Management Team.
