2 hikers caught up in avalanche near Mount Seymour, 1 missing

Search crews from Whistler Blackcomb have arrived on the North Shore with avalanche dogs to look for two hikers caught up in an avalanche. North Vancouver RCMP say they have received a call from two hikers in distress north of Mount Seymour. North Shore Rescue (NSR) crews have been called to a remote area between Runners Peak and Mount Elsay, which is north of Mount Seymour. NSR confirms they were contacted early Monday morning. “They were both hit by an avalanche,” Allan McMordie‏, a search manager with North Shore Rescue. “One of the party is hanging on to a tree so that he doesn’t slide down any further and he was able to phone out to 911.
